Oaxaca Cultural Navigator
Oaxaca Cultural Navigator LLC has organized travel-and-learn arts and educational workshops and retreats in Oaxaca, Mexico, since 2006. Small-group experiences give novice and intermediate-level participants the opportunity to learn new or improve upon existing skills. Class sizes are usually 10 participants or fewer and all instruction is in English.

Programs include documentary photography and film making, creative writing (poetry, fiction, travel, memoir, journal writing), weaving, natural dyeing, painting, drawing and other art forms. This is a perfect opportunity to pursue your artistic endeavors in an extraordinary location. We can also organize customized programs for your group.Norma Hawthorne personally selects accomplished instructors who are experts in their field. She has over 25 years experience developing award-winning programs at Indiana University, University of Virginia, The George Washington University, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she created professional development and continuing education programs and led advancement initiatives.

Typical workshops and retreats include six nights lodging, most meals, and all instruction. There is plenty of time built in for visiting craft villages, meeting local artists and artisans, enjoying private museum tours, and exploring historic archeological sites. Our base is usually at a lovely, family-operated bed and breakfast casa in Teotitlan del Valle, where accommodations are basic and clean in order to keep our programs accessible and prices reasonable. You will find these programs to be considerably less than others offered with similar quality. We have a commitment to sustainable development and working directly with local people. For more information, please see our web site.
